The music was written in the early 17th Century, by Lucrezia Orsina Vizzana (1590-1662),
a Catholic Nun of the Camaldolese Order, who lived at Santa Chrisina Convent in Bologna from
the age of eight until she died 64 years later. Today her music is still sung in churches all
over the world. This music was quite controversial at that time due in part, to Vizzana's 'STILE MODERNO'
(MODERN STYLE), the unusual placing of dissonant harmonies with unexpected melodic movement. The music,
along with her unusual and somewhat erotic lyrics were part of what prompted a 'GRAND INVESTIGATION'.
The trial of the nuns revealed their many jealousies, rivalries and improprieties. The trial culminated
in expulsions, demotions, punishments and finally the siege of the convent by Vatican troops.
Although here edited and only a tiny part of what she must have written, the following selections, in their entirety,
together with all Lucrezia Orsina Vizzana's other known works and the film soundtrack will be available on CD,
as part of the funding agreement.
