We are currently seeking to secure independent financing to shoot
this feature film. We are looking into a coproduction with several
companies in Romania and Italy with hopes to shoot next year.
The true story
of a 17th century convent, Santa Cristina, in Bologna, where wealthy
and aristocratic women were sent to live out their lives so their
fathers wouldn't have to pay hefty dowries.
These women
did little praying. They wore make-up and jewelry, came with their
servants and luxurious belongings. Needless to say the political
and social dynamics of such a place were scary.
But mainly,
this is the story of one of the nuns, Lucrezia Vizzana, Bologna's
only nun composer who was bold enough to publish her music and who
dared to challenge all the rules imposed upon her, by composing
music in a new style and writing erotic texts.
Because
her music was disapproved by the church and yet the convent published
it and because of the many other vices within the convent walls,
the Vatican sent clergy to investigate the entire convent. What
followed was an absolutely fascinating story, about how these nuns
fought back and finally stood in siege of the church and the Vatican
Army. All of this got to Lucrezia's sensitive nature and she went
mad.
This is also
the story of her love affair with the monk, Don Alessandro Mannino.
